That's O.K.
I understand - AB is a real challenge.
It takes time to take it all in - the first year is tough.

Tomasz's videos are a Godsend - I use them myself to reinforce my 
learning and find out a few things I had previously overlooked.

Yes, the default database is the one set in Preferences, Yes that is 
the one that opens when you open AB and Yes, the open database is the 
one that AmiQuote references (always).

If you delete the default database AB will warn you when you open it 
and ask you to pick one.

When you create a new database you can choose to make that the 
default - database settings over-ride preference settings.

Don't worry too much - just use Yahoo and make as many new databases 
as you need to to try everything out.

(that is why I am a big fan of starting with Yahoo - it is free - if 
you make a mistake throw it away and do it again).

When you finish playing, use your OS file manager to delete practise 
databases (Windows Explorer) - all AB files can be handled like 
ordinary files.
