[amibroker] Please help: How do I use if to compare current and previous MA?

periods = Param( "Periods", 30, 1, 200, 1 );
averages = MA(Close, periods);
this = Ref(averages, 0);
prev = Ref(averages, -1);


if I try :
if (this > prev) I get an error, I am aware I am trying to "if" 2 arrays.

So I do this, which does not look right !?:

Cond1 = WriteIf( this >= prev, "up", "down" );
if (Cond1 == "up"){
    printf("hai");
}
