I do not think there is anything wrong with the data. When volatility
drops that is what the smaller timeframe charts look like.

You have 2 choices, use a larger time frame or switch to a more
volatile pair.

Right now GPBJPY is the most volatile (all of the JPY pairs are
volatile because of the Yen carry trade).

FinAm does not have data for that pair but you can get 1 minute data
here (http://www.forexite.com/free_forex_quotes/forex_history_arhiv.html).
