If you don't like _N (like me) you can use:
EnableTextOutput( False ); early in your code and later:
if ( Status("action") == actionCommentary ) {
  EnableTextOutput( True );
  // interpretation code
  EnableTextOutput( False );
}
It's a bit long winded I suppose..
