Hello alt.private
Allowing for my personal biases - IMO

Start with AB basic - it allows real time use (just not as fine
grained as AB Pro - upgrade later as you progress (if you need to).
I never use the Wizard - code straight into AFL unless you definitely
need prompting - I don't have an IT background and I prefer to work
with the code.

AmiQuote is free - paid version has current Fdata plus maybe a little
more (OLE?) - $49 once off - I paid up (after a while) as a support
for AB rather than out of need.

Not really - basically the price of flexibilty is to have to write
your own - advanced users can write their own function and include
them as 'pre-written' code at the start of a formula - there is a lot
of scope for advanced automation also.
Intitially just write your own and store them in custom folders in
the Workspace >> Charts Tree.
Some tips on basic formula management that I filed at the UKB might
help a little bit - http://www.amibroker.org/userkb/category/user-
interface/
Start writing your own scans and file them in the Chart folders - if
you get stuck with code for a scan just ask a specific question here.
Have fun,
