Ara & others --
In the past, I have had similar problems with two of my desktop
computers.
The cause -- dirt buildup in the CPU fan. The dirt prevents air
from circulating between the fins and the CPU heats up to the point where
random errors begin to happen.
How do I know -- my computer has an Asus mother board which came with
software that allows me to measure and graph temperature. For my
computer, temperature of CPU is normally about 40 degrees C. When I
run a 1 hour virus scan (every night) , CPU temp will get up to the low
50's. When fins get real dirty (takes about a year or so), normal
temp goes to about 50 and during virus scan will go above 70. My
CPU cannot take 70 degrees C.
The fix -- clean out the dirt between the fins. Works for me.

Anyone recommend a particular memory tester - preferably
free.
Thanks
