Sometimes trading a leveraged product can result in a really interesting dayâ?¦like today, trading YM, the Dow E-mini futures contract. I have a tiny futures account that I use to practice my trading skills. Going into today I was long 1 YM contract on a swing trading idea. Starting the day my equity was $5170. The market gapped down ~ 80 points which pushed my equity down $400 right after the open. I continued to hold that contract all day and the market closed up about 100 points for $500 to the positive side. Just a little $900 swing on $5170 equity. I also did 7 intraday trades with 1 other YM contract. I got stopped out of two trades for a total loss of $130â?¦keeping those losses low. 4 of the trades were tick hooks and 2 were pivot level trades and one trade that was a combo of both a tick hook and a pivot level. The gain on those trades was enough to push the final equity for the day up to ~$6200. Lets see that makes (6200-5170) / 5170, a tidy 19.9% for 1 day after commissions. Canâ??t do that very often, but I guess if I were a systems vendor I would advertize â?? Make up to 20% a day trading Sidâ??s super secret trading method!â?? Yeah, rightâ?¦LOL See the data for the 1 day this year it worked really wellâ?¦ Seriously, I wish I could code these and other ideas into AB but they are just too subjective to do that. Like which hook will you take today, 1,2, or 3; and how close do you want to set your limits to the pivot levels and still get the trade executed. These things also depend on what the market internals are doing, how much fear is there in the market after the overnight China selloff, what is the markets mood after release of the FOMC meeting notes, etc. Bottom line is, it was a fun day in the market for me and in view of the recent discussions on daily profits I thought you guys might get a little fun out of it also.
