Charles,

Not entirely correct but a starting point.

Without second guessing Tomasz, I believe he provides a full range of
features to suit various traders whether he personally endorses all
of them or not.

Since no one else offers you much, and as I am always stretching for
new trading knowledge, I did some quick flick research on the subject.

You should know that if you go down that path it would require a lot
of study.

The point I am making about the difficulty is that it is a very
abstract subject; maybe too abstract to objectify in the end
(backtest?).

Also Gannists almost certainly end up forking out, rightly or
wrongly, for specialist charting software.

Also Gann is an enigma, and it is difficult to tell if he was a
charlatan, a genius or a bit of both.

Gann clearly used Astrology, as his training courses and hand written
notes on charts contain references to planetary influences.

He appears to have been something of a carpet bagger, or at least
some of those around him were, and sold trading courses for the
median house price of the day.

He was also a Freemason, hence his interest in geometric numerology
(for want of a better term) and his penchant for veiled references to
his underlying methodology (also arguable).

It is interesting that few in the forum specialise in the subject,
while the internet has a lot of Gann stuff.

As The Wave Mechanic suggested, there is no way around Gann except
reading and referencing others who have studied his *work* in detail.

I have 3 Gann and 4-5 books by interpreters here, so later today I
will give you a quick few lines review from one or two of them to get
you started.

We can dispel one view immediately i.e that we have nothing to learn
from 1930's commentators.

Gann used money management, support and resistance, market geometrics
(arguably), stop losses, trade with the trend and tops and bottoms to
name a few.
Maybe he was the first ever to discuss some or all of those concepts.

Not bad for his day.

I do agree, however, that we should not idolise the legendary traders
of the past.
Unheard of modern day traders may well be just as good or superior
e.g I find Ganns views on MM enlightening for his day but primitive
by todays standards.

since I assumed Tomasz put the Gann stuff into AmiBroker for a
reason. I'm not opposed to using any method that would generate an
80-90%% success rate, no matter how wacky it seemed. Seems pretty
far-fetched, but so does quantum mechanics.
