I don't know whether the use of angles is helpful or not. However, I am sure that you have no fundamental reason for rejecting them as "unpromising" and are simply voicing a subjective opinion. Do you know, for example, that Gann traders who use time-price squares, etc. are unsuccessful? The only consistent basis for rejecting an approach is not the back tester but the bottom line which applies to both system and discretionary traders. However, I suspect that few traders would be particularly interested in proving to the "world" that they successful use angles. Your opinion as to the uselessness of angles should not discourage anyone from investigating their use. We would still be in caves believing that the earth revolves around the sun if naysayers ruled the day.
