Tomasz,
Your comments about VS2005 caught my eye. I was just about to buy it, just waiting for 64bits ADK to come out.
I dont do any software development other than writing ami-related codes and i dont need any of the .net or C#  fancy stuff.

What choice do I have other than VS. Have you experienced any of the problems in compiling Amibroker codes?
What advice do you have regarding a suitable platform for compiling dll,? Is there anyway not to load all the modules to make VS more stable?

Cheers
Paul.

Hello,

OK, I understand these are your personal preferences and that's perfectly fine.

By the way: I *do* like parts of the Office suite, I bought it and I use Word and Excel quite often and like them.

I am not big fan of the other parts.
PowerPoint is adequate for quick presentations but if you ever worked with Scala... it has some "wow" factor that PP misses.
Access, although it is fine for small local, personal databases, is not for me since I need platform independent stuff (run all my databases on Linux servers and
I rely on mySQL).

As for Outlook... you know my opinion already

I am not pro- or anti-MS. I think I have quite balanced view on their products.

I am using their Visual Studio 6 everyday and love it (although it has its quirks too :-)) - I think it is their best product to date.

I recently purchased (back in November) Visual Studio 2005
and if you ever used it, you would probably share "not-so-great" impression http://minimsft.blogspot.com/2005/11/hey-shareholders-vs-2005-is-fantastic.html

I tried OpenOffice (open source competitor of MS Office) and my impression was that OO is huge resource hog compared to MS Office,
which seems to be confirmed by observations other made:

So MS has good and bad products (at least from my point of view), so open-source community does.

The intention of original post was not to bash Microsoft but rather to point out some fact that leads to problems with communication between different e-mail clients.

You won't loose formatting if you use HTML”

That is my point and the pain.  I don’t want the HTML formatting with its huge line spacing.  Look at the quote marks in the line above, the closing quote is different to the opening quote mark.  At least for me.

“As for "position" of the attachment - you are aware that people not using Outlook won't see your "positioned" attachments at all  - see previous pointer about TNEF”

The point is that I want to see them while I am writing the mail.

Anyway, it was useful information that you provided.

Thanks

Hello,

1.. You won't loose formatting if you use HTML

2. As for "position" of the attachment - you are aware that people not using Outlook won't see your "positioned" attachments at all  - see previous pointer about TNEF

As for the rest of the e-mail - I don't have any desire to convince you to drop Outlook. The only purpose of my original post was to notify

the users of this "that good" product is that it is not compatible with the rest of the world and that when you are using TNEF/RTF format

don't be surprised that other people can not see attachments.

As for  there remaining part of your e-mail - I don't have time to enter any "Microsoft evangelism" debate here.

Just one eye-opener for you, directly from Microsoft employee: http://minimsft.blogspot.com/

The reason I don’t like it is because if I wish to copy some or all of the content of a mail to another document, I need to copy it to an editor first to lose all the formatting and double spacing’s you get.  It’s a pain.  Also, when I add an attachment, I like to see it in the position that I attached to in the email, not another bar at the top.

As I have a good virus checker that checks each mail as it come in and is sent out, I have never been infected or lost control of my machine.  No one can get on my machine.

I like Outlook and haven’t seen any application that allows you to do so much in such an easy way.  The Office suite is used because Microsoft has produced a product that is good.  I have heard a lot of things over the years about their products.  Every time something is found it is broadcast at full volume.  Every time something is found wrong with open source or competitors products, it ends up in a small corner in the middle of nowhere.  I see a lot of dislike for Microsoft.  Apple had the opportunity to be the number one system.  The fact of the matter is that others spend their time trying to catch up to what Microsoft produces.  One day Microsoft will lose its lead and some other company will take the lead.  Then everyone can start to bash that company.  In the meantime I’ll stick to what I like to use.

Don’t take this reply personally

Frankly, I don't see any practical difference in HTML vs TNEF( RTF), other than HTML is readable

by everyone which is good.

And personally I consider Outlook as worst e-mail client considering the security of your system.

Outlook exposes OLE automation interface that most viruses use to broadcast viruses to all people

you have in your address book. It is like saying "Hey, virus writers - we have provided you with wonderfull

easy-to-use tool to send out copies of your viruses to all our contacts - please enjoy and use as often as you wish, MS development team".

I really dislike plain text and HMTL.  Useful to know though.  Thanks.

Hello,

Outlook users please read this, so you are aware that by default
the attachments you send to other people are not visible to anyone else
except other MS Office Outlook users:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/197066/EN-US/

..and that you should switch to HTML if you want the rest of the world to
see
what you write.
