I want to thank everyone for contributing to
this thread. This explains so much of the "unexplained" that
I
experienced in the area of Layouts, and multiple instances. It make
perfect sense now that the autosave
feature was pointed out to me.
I also appreciate everyone laying out
their best practices since it well save a great many steps on my part and
others just starting out.
Best regards
Joe

I
run 2 or 3 instances everyday, all are real time and auto trading.
1.
turn off auto save like TJ have suggested; 2. each start with a blank
startup database, then switch to its own data base and stay there, never
open the same database in different AB instances at same time; 3. I
don't save the real time feed data, but its safe to save I think; 4. the
last closed instance has the final saying, so never save anything except
AFL code.
That's how I do it, have been trouble free.

Indeed! I strongly suggest that number
of bars should be cumstomized to each chart.

however I ran into problems earlier doing that. That was some time ago
that I had to switch to multiple databases... perhaps before certain
changes were made that make the operation of a single installation using
multiple instances practiclal. > > I know that many changes
have been made over time to the preferences and parameters controlling
each data base setting have been moved to the individual data base. The
problem earlier was that parameters relating to databases were common and
part of preferences, thus all databases had one set of parameters (such as
number of bars)... which was a pain... > > Also I beleive
that even with current version, a single installation would have a single
set of symbols. Broker files reflecting a unique set of setting for a
particular application (EOD, Real Time etc). Is that nor correct? >
