I think the beta releases are amazingly solid. In my opinion they
would be final release quality for most other software packages.
Following a beta release there are frequently 2-3 problems reported
(along with the usual "why didn't you include my request" comments)
but if theya re REAL problems, Tomasz usually has them fixed with
follow-up releases within a day or so. Following that, they invariably
run without problems for long periods of time. An example: the release
before this one was at the end of October and it ran without problems
for over two months (although there are always on-going minor
enhancement requests, there were no no show-stoppers or crashes that I
was aware of).
I usually grab the beta releases wihin hours of their announcements
and may have to update once or twice within the first 24 hours but
then I'm happy until the next one comes out.
Maybe a good approach would be to wait a couple of days after the
initial release of a beta to see if any problems are reported. AB has
a sophisticated user base that exercises virtually every imaginable
feature so if there are problems, we usually hear about them within hours.
Just one person's opinion.
