Agreed, And this is also why "wine" is being developed. To cater for the
fact that windows has such large user share. On the upside, Some of the
bigger entities are pushing linux desktop forward ie IBM, Novell etc etc.

There are tools to help with the porting of windows apps to linux. So a
complete redevelopment should not be required.

I also ran OS/2, But as a desktop system. I can sympathise with your
experience.
Except for the terrible video support, It was a nice OS.
