FYI: For newer AB users: backtest
reports can take up HUGE amounts of space. If you have been doing a lot of backtesting without
deleting the old reports you can save possibly a hundred megabytes. PS: It will take
awhile to delete all those so be patient.

For Tintin,
Currently my AB folders
total about 600Mb of data. This can be backed up quite easily onto
a CD in about 3-4 minutes. Since I upgraded my computers to use Gig
NICs, copying between my desktop and laptop only takes about 6 minutes (the
laptop disk is the bottleneck).
Bottom line –
backing up the whole thing is far easier and faster than trying to back up
piece parts.
Regards,
Dan.

Exactly. Keep everything
(including database directories)
in one place (inside
AmIBroker installation directory) and just copy entire dir with all subdirs.

[amibroker] Is it possible to backup the studies ?
The answer is a bit more complicated than you
might think because of the way that AB stores information. To learn more
about this area (which if you want to copy your AB files between computers, or
do a true backup you should), go to: http://www.amibroker.com/guide/x_files.html and
read the linked pages as well.
The not so simple answer to your question
about backing up trendlines, horizontal lines, etc. (i.e., tool drawn studies),
is something like this. Trendlines are stored in individual symbol files in
the database folder. So to backup your existing drawn studies, you
must copy the database folder (you can have as many databases as you
want). However - to have trendlines (and other studies) displayed
you must copy the Layouts and also the Formulas folder because
each chart pane is tied to a particular formula via the Chart ID. Thus,
each trendline is assigned to the chart window recognized by CHART ID (you can
see which chart ID each chart pane has via the Pane's Parameters -->
Axes & Grid Tab, Miscellaneous). You can see that if that
particular chart is not displayed, the trendline will not be visible
either.
I wrote a paper on this last summer when
looking into ways to synchronize AB on multiple computers and learned a
lot. Ultimately I concluded that it is easier just to do a complete
backup/copy of AB if one wants to save everything.
Peace and Justice ---
Patrick
*** BTW, Mike Ringgold -- the answer to
your Layouts question is also tied to the chart ID -- I created a
setup like what you are describing with the directions already provided in a
couple minutes. AB can do it, but perhaps you can't. ---P---

I saw the videos about the Layouts.
I dont
think it's about all the things under :Insert in the AB menu.

What I am talking about
when I speak about studies is all the horizontals lines, trendlines, paralleles
lines, and all the stuff which comes with a chart.
All the things under
:Insert in the AB menu.
If you dont care and
close the chart where you put all this stuff, then you lose all your work.
Also I will find very
usefull if I could copy and past all my work ( horizontals lines, trendlines,
paralleles lines, etc.. ) from one chart to another.

TinTin,
Assuming
that you’re talking about the AFL studies in the ..\Forumulas folder,
just backup them up when you back up your AB folder. You ARE backing up
AB aren’t you?
Regards,
Dan.
Hi,
Is it possible to back up the studies ?
Thanks
