Hi All - thanks very much for all the
suggestions!
Chuck - that really sounds like a great idea,
doesn't it? In fact, I had the same exact thought a couple of
months ago when I stumbled across the MTA website while searching for
something or other. Before buying, I went to Amazon to read the user
reviews for the whole set, and was very surprised to find that most of the
MTA's required reading was not regarded very highly by most of the people who
felt strongly enough to bother posting a review. Many recommend what they
considered to be "better" books covering the same material. It left me at
a loss to explain it - maybe the reading was too difficult, or maybe it was
geared towards academia rather than actual trading in the trenches - I don't
really know, because I gave up on the idea after reading so many negative
reviews. It was a good thought anyway - perhaps some CMT's in the group would
care to comment?
Patrick, I like your suggestion - rave
reviews on Amazon, all 5-stars except for one 4-star. I think I will combine
it with Covel's trend following book ( thanks Dick! ) - it appears that the
former advocates base-hits over home runs while the latter advocates
swinging for the fences, yet both garnered great reviews and apparently made
good money for readers following thier systems - should be interesting to
compare/contrast the two. Actually, I have
been trying out some of my work on weekly bars recently, and
my impression to date is that swing-trading and trend-following
methods often now result in very similar trades because weekly bars seem to be
generally smoother and have more "well defined" pivots than
daily bars. Any thoughts on this?
OK, thanks again to everyone - I checked out all
suggestions and added many to my "wish list" - your help is much
appreciated!

Why not give the "boxed set" -- the complete
list of required reading for the CMT exam? Not light reading, but also not shlock.....

has your work with Goslin's approach been
"fruitful"?
d
Chick Goslin's "Trading Day by Day" - easily one of
the best I've read for a while. His approach - at least the
technical bits, can easily be programmed in Amibroker. Email me if
you do read the book - I'd be happy to share some of my work with
Goslin's approach.
Cheers,

Hi,
Well, it's Christmas again and people are
asking me what I want but I can't come up with much, so I thought I
might ask for a couple of trading books. Anyone read anything
lately that you learned something new or valuable from and would care
to recommend? All suggestions welcome - thanks very much!
