Conrad:
Here are two forums on "Value" investing which is distinct
from the trading approach.
StraTESTegy forum
http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/stratestegy/
FREE - focus on sharing test results for strategies, thus
the group name of straTESTegy.
OPEN - for new members.
FOCUS - The most interesting discussions in my mind are the
ones about value and growth strategies provided by the
AAII. But other approaches, both value and growth, are also
discussed.
Currently my focus is on the AAII strategies discussed in
the StraTESTegy form, but I have benefited from discussion
in another group that I joined very recently:
ValueOasis
http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/Value_Oasis/
FREE - closes to new members on or around November 12.
MOTIVATION - As best I can tell, the owner's motivation is
to build a community of value investors who will share
value oriented stock picks and research. The forum will be
closed to new members so that discussion can focus on stock
research and not be continually interrupted by basic newbie
questions. If things go well he might reopen it to new
members in April 2006.
FOCUS - on learning the value approach of the forum owner
known as "tom_richards_54". The owner provides his WIT
software free of charge. WIT is a VB program that builds on
top of Excel. He saved development time by purchasing some
custom "What If" Excel extensions from a third party.
Although WIT can be used without the third party additions,
these need to be purchased ($75) for exploring "What If"
situations.
Form members are not required to buy the Excel
extensions.
I have just signed up but will not be buying the Excel
extensions until I have the time to learn the software.
Right now my time is filled with the AAII studies on the
StraTESTegy form (and TA work using Amibroker!)
Value investing is new to me so I have a lot to learn and
both of these sites are helpful.
