I thought the details were complete, Graham.
Why 'reverse engineer' given that the unknown data [today's H, L and C]
become increasing more certain as the day session's end approaches?

all
example of reverse engineering
If we have this calculation
y = a*x+b
and want to reverse it to find what value of y will give us x
we turn the equation around to this
x = (y-b)/a
