My introduction to computerize investment software came many years ago
when Value Line came out with CD of their data. Using this CD one
could sort the data by a multitude of options (fundamental) and make
decisions accordingly. This was soon followed by Forbes and others.
My introduction to Technical Analysis was after I got a stock market
program for my Trash 80 Radio Shack computer that was based on Trendex
system by Sedge Coppick of San Antonio (one of the early pioneers in
technical analysis). I had several visits with Sedge and from then on
was sold on TA. This was followed by a program called TeleScan that
not only did what Value Line did but added the Technical Analysis
component.
All of these approaches had one dominant component … a way to explore
ones database for stocks that meet specific buy or sell criteria. In
other word an Exploration. AmiBroker is designed to produce excellent
Explorations but my feeling is that a lot of users are not fully
cognizant of this capability. I am not a programmer, but would
welcome from those who are, Explorations that can pinpoint stocks that
are ready to break-out or do a lot of other things including being
ready for the dumpster. Dickie is to be commended for his recent
Explorations. Participation by others would be more than welcome.
