I did email support, as you suggest.
Here is their reply:
The current version of the plugin was created before longer backfills were
introduced by IB.
The amount of the backfilled data depends on the settings in:
File -> Database Settings -> Configure,
however - as for the moment you cannot exceed the maximum of 86400 for
1-minute bars.
Since Tomasz is out of the office untill the end of the week - so
the earliest you can expect some upgrade of the IB plugin is after he's
back.
