I know nothing about afl files yet but can answer this one only because I just did this

 

In case of intraday data - you can get up to 120 days of backfill which is about 6 months, To see long EOD history please do the following:

- go to: File -> Database Settings,

set "Number of bars to load" to 90000

- in "File -> Database Settings -> Intraday Settings" mark "Allow mixed EOD/Intraday data"

 

then - for each symbol that you already have in the database perform Force Backfill operation (right-click on the plugin area in the status bar, choose 'Force backfill')
