Re: [amibroker] Re: Ami + IB's TWS for ER2, ES, NQ index futures?

I agree. I trade YM and ER2 (mostly YM) using AB, IB and sometimes
QuoteTracker. I also used to use TSIM+ to do simulated trades and still do
occasionally to test trading ideas.

Lack of continuous tick data from IB has not been a limitation. The price
data, which is what I use, is accurate and fast enough to trade
successfully. If your methodology needs full tick data and you intend to use
tick charts to trade off of, you may have some challenges with IB datafeed.
With time based charting (1 min, 5 min etc.), I see no problem that affects
the trades adversely. Even volume data is accurate enough to make trade
decisions. I am only looking for spikes, so it is easy.

I maintain daily data separately, which I download from BriteFutures. I use
a script, but I believe Dr TJ added Brite Futures downloads to AmiQuote. I
see it as one of the quote sources in AmiQuote.(Yahoo does not provide
commodity/index futures EOD data). You only need the daily EOD data. from
which the weekly and monthly charts are derived. You can even make your own
continuous contacts.

I tried to evaluate BracketTrader, but I could not stand the awful buzzer
and had no way of turning it off other than turning audio off. So I
abandoned it. I guess the author wants quick registration. You may want to
try NinjaTrader or ButtonTrader, if you are daytrading or develop your own
front end with AB's IB API. TSim+ can also do real and simulated trading -
but not much bells and whistles, DOM and so forth. For my trading, I find
that IB's TWS is adequate. Less I throw on the trading platform, the less
chances for SNAFU while trading. I use a dedicated computer just to run TWS.
Charting is done with another computer on the network.

I have stayed away from ES,NQ also. Currently experimenting with
commodities. You may want to try corn, wheat etc., if you are new to trading
futures. Even otherwise. Smaller margin, good trending potential for longer
term trades ....

Good luck.
