[amibroker] Re: TC2000 VS AMIBROKER VS METASTOCK

Hi,

I'm a longterm user of AB, Metastock and TC2000.

The first to skip from the list would be Metastock imho.

I use TC2000 ( or 2005 now ) for certain scans which would be a bit
more complicated to accomplish in AB. But for backtesting and
trading system development, there comes nothing close to AB with
regard to the price of the program. And ... u can use TC200 ( 2005
data in AB via a plugin - just import the whole database structure /
symbols into AB and work with both programs.
You can even include TC2000 's BOP indicator

Unfortunatly, the only thing you can't do right now is accessing
your TC2000 scan lists directly from AB....would be a nice feature
for one of the next AB releases Tomasz - what do you think ?

As a workaround, I use the export to text function in TC2005 and
export only the symbols of the scan to a textfile.
Than import this symbollist into a AB watchlist folder.
Select this folder as filter in the Autoanalyse function and voila -
off you go with backtesting of your easyscan.

TC2005 provides clean data and I find their customer service very
responsive.

I can say the same for QuotesPlus - which would be my next choice
for a good complentary tool and data service for AB.

I prefer TC2005 over QP only because of some other applications I
use, which can also read TC2005 database directly. So no hassle with
conversion. Although the latest version of QP does offer direct
conversion to Metastockformat from the so called data warehouse.
Which means, you can stay with the data structure supplied by QP.

AB reads QP data via plugin directly - so conversion issues at all,
like with TC200/5

QP offers way more fundamental data and all symbols traded on US
exchanges + 16K + mutual funds. TC200/5 is limited to about 7.300
symbols including all ETF's and a number of indexes - no BB and
Pinksheets. Funds would be an extra subscription.
QP offers a very convenient but a bit limited screening tool called
data warehouse. But QP comes with an extra program called QP scan,
where you can code your custom scans in similar way like in many
other screening programs.

I'd suggest to check out all these options because TC2005 as well as
QP are great compagnions to AB.

For QP info go to www.qp2.com. They have also a very active forum
here on Yahoo.

All vendors offer trial periods. In any case, if you're really into
TA, stay with quality data

regards
Privateer
