I had been waiting to install SP2 until it appeared that the problems had been resolved.
The other day, a  computer professional who has the reputation of being very good was visiting my neighbor, and kindly agreed to check on another  problem that I was having.
During this visit, I asked him about SP2, and he recommended that I not install SP2.  Instead, he recomended that I always upgrade one new fix at a time.

He related the  experience of one of his fellow computer professionsal's.

His friend installed it on a RAID system, and it took him all day to finally resolve that problems that SP2 created.
This is just one experience, and maybe XP2 is now OK to install.  Ron D

I have had nothing but trouble with my local network and a number of
programs after insatlling SP SP2. I have a number of programs that
no longer work with a shared printer system and I had to take XP off
and install W98SE on the print server to get it to work and that did
not fix all the problems. I even had to install some programs on my
printe server and transfer the files to it to get them to print. It
looks like Microsoft really screwed up this time.

But with this many people having problems they may be fixed in a
hurry. With that in mind the first and best place to start is
Microsofts support site and look for errors of this type usingt
their knowledge base. They may have patches for them already. If you
allow auto updates from Microsoft they may just disappear over time,
if you have the patience to wait. If that does not help, uninstall
SP2 and see if that helps. I have had it with SP2 and am about to do
just that. I am having too much of a production hit to keep SP2 on
my systems.

Metastock's  Downloader, but compatibility settings took care of
things.
