No offense intended dingo, but some people need more help than
others, particularly if they come from a complete non-programming
background, or a native language other than English, and especially
those to whom both circumstances apply.
Moreover, yes, a picture is worth a thousand words, the picture in
this case being some sample code. I find the documents very trying,
with examples that are written mostly like Linux MAN pages (fine for
programmers of course), frequently not giving me the clue that *I*
need to solve my problem. Most of what I can do has come from
modifying examples that people have been kind enough to post or send
me.
Outright posted refusal to help in the manner requested is the kind
of attitude that has eventually broken most of the lists I've ever
been a member of. IMO, if one does not want to assist in the manner
requested, that is fine, but then the list is best served by one
simply moving on to the next message. Someone else will help; they
always have; and that's what keeps this list alive. Encouraging a
refusal to help is not what we want to do, I think. I'm sure it's
not what TJ wants us to do, either.
