Hi Bob,
could not resist that response ;-)
As far as I know-and I know little as you know!
It is not possible to do what you want. I will try to explain what I think
is going on but I may be wrong since when it was explained to me my brain
was all kinda fuzzy as it usually is.
Any program (word for example must be set up on the local machine to run on
that machine. On a network you can save your word docs onto the network
somewhere else of course but you can not run the word program from the
network via your own local computer.
Networks are also set up so people can not just plug in their laptop and
have free reign on the network. Barriers are placed so one can not run a
program remotely as you want to do and I think the reason is obvious.
The only way I believe this can be done is to have the program on your local
AND have the data also on the local machine.
You may have to copy the network data directory to your local each time you
run the program.
Trying to run the program while accessing the network data directory is
trying to make the network which is a joining of all the bits in teh network
into an information highway-dont think they have the bandwidth to do that
really as far as I know.

Why not install AB on the computer and set the database to the other
networked computer

I'd like to run a local copy of AB using QP2 data which is on a networked
computer--anyone know of an AB workaround?
Another alternative would be to run the networked copy of AB locally, but I
haven't managed that either--any thoughts?
TIA,
Bob
