[amibroker] help with getting NUMBER from ARRAY

AFL distinguishes between NUMBER and ARRAY for some functions.
Although there is a selectedvalue function for picking up the current 
NUMBER value on a chart, i can't see a way to pick the current NUMBER 
value of an array as AB is iterating through on a backtest (without a 
do loop?). 
What i want to be able to do is to assign
index=currentValueofArray1;//result to be a number not an array
variable[index]=currentValueOfArray2;
....And not get an error message that i need to have a NUMBER and not 
an ARRAY.
I would appreciate advice on a way of doing this.
