Yuki:
I did Google before sending my last note but only
found standards for programmers regarding header construction, etc. for both
text and html modes. User standards in the true sense of the word do
not appear to exist for composing messages and would, I am sure, be well
advertised. However, as you correctly note, opinions on both sides of
the issue do exist but these do not constitute standard-based user
requirements, as you suggest. The 2001 epdigest article that you reference
is for publishers (and marketers) and at that point in time noted that
some readers may still be using an "older email client" (must be real old) that
cannot accept html. The article does not suggest that messages have to
conform to the text format. For better or worse, time has moved
on and fewer and fewer users have an "older email client." I belong
to numerous forums and would bet that the percentage of users with "older email
clients" that cannot accept html is close to zero, as evidenced by the number
that use html as I do and the absence of non-readability concerns. As for
your situation, your email client, as you note, is not of the older variety and,
in fact, has two standard configurations - read text only or not. Bottom
line, exercise your free will, make a decision, and choose one or the
other. Now lets move on and if you want to discuss this further you can
reach me offline.

there is a debate about this. People acknowledge that. Butthe
"universal standard" is plain text. No one, except the ignorant(not

this stuff if you don't believe me.Moreover, as Nigel said, HTML is a
sitting duck, or I should sayclients that default to reading it are making

EXPECTED to be plain-textcapable, even if it's in HTML
