1. I was comparing AMD64 to AMD32, not to those ridiculously 
priced pentiums.
2. The price of the computer is not the price of CPU alone. 
AMD64 MOTHERBOARDS are still lot more expensive than AMD32 
botherboards.

  I've been reading up on some of the test 
  results, and while AMD's 64b FX-53 is about 26% cheaper than intel's 3.4Ghz 
  P4EE, both chips are expected to be superceded soon. The increase in 
  performance is not on par with the increase in price.

    nForce3 already supports AMD64 and other chipsets from VIA 
    and ECS .
    And I have seen 64 bit machines in the shop round the 
    corner...
    they are just about 50% more expensive than well equiped 
    32 bit ones.
