Developing this idea of practical hands-on instruction a little
further. The new owner or trial user wants to start the program and see it
perform, so take him by the hand and guide him into doing basic things for
himself, leaving other considerations until he has gained some familiarity
with the program.
Dear old Technifilter Plus did it very well. (Right, Bob J?). Chapter 3
of the TF+ Program Guide consists of Sample Sessions: Filtering, Testing,
Optimization, Creating Strategies and Basket Testing, Automation. Canned
sample data came with the program, so that the results of each exercise are
reproducible. Each sample session has step-by-step instructions of what to
enter, what buttons to click on. There are illustrations of the dialogue
boxes at each step so that one can compare one's own screen with the
illustration.
In similar fashion an AB sample session could start with how to plot price
bars; how to write a moving average and plot that; how to write a
title. Later sessions would cover explorations, scans, backtesting,
correlation, but always just the essential elements to perform the task at
hand. The instructions could be in printable PDF format to allow
comparison between the printout and the exercise on the screen.
