I've been a very happy user of UltraEdit since 1998. Has all
positives as TextPad plus these IMO:

+ decent Compare tool built in and if you want ultimate compare
tool, check out its companion tool UltraCompare by same author
+ highly configurable down to displaying line numbers and/or listing
functions on right side (like an IDE does)
+ auto-complete features
+ responsive author to your requests for enhancement/suggestions/etc.
+ auto bracket/parens highlighting while coding
+ auto indentation features
+ nice UNIX/DOS conversion tools for techie types who work with
files between UNIX/Windows worlds
+ search capabilities across many files from within the editor
+ ability to invoke 3rd party executables on certain key
combinations that you can define
- slightly more expensive but worth it in my opinion

Regards,

JD
