Hi Graham,
 
arc alpha = b / r // b = bow or circle segment, r = radius of the circle
arc alpha = (2 * pi * alpha) / 360° // pi = 3.1415...
Note that alpha and 360° are in degrees and by virtue of these two mathematical relations you can calculate the value in radian (do not pronounce radians :-) ) from the angle given in degrees. Check it with your pocket calculator.
All trigonometric functions also accept their angle (argument) in radian. For example, 1 radian = 57.3° .
