While I think both indicators (the RSI ribbons and the ADX) deserve further
study and perhaps optimizing, I can't yet say which is better for catching
trends or lack thereof.

See attached.

Both would have caught most of the major May-July uptrend, but both also
would have missed most of the mini uptrend from late Sep to late Oct.
