If you uncheck the box you then have to 'Apply' the change first. Then it will no longer appear in the Insert-->Custom Indicators menu list.
All indicators appear in the Ctrl-I list box.

Thanks for the response William, but try to delete an item from
the 'Quick Insert' dropdown menu and find that the checkbox will add
an item but will not delete it.
