The problem is solved, at least
partially.
I was using a hard copy of the
V 4.30 manual. The AFL section is different to that in the V 4.40
manual. I am printing out the latest version for my
use.
I didn't mean to sound so
critical of the Amibroker manual. It describes the very rich capability of
the AFL language and the program. I guess that I was feeling a bit frustrated
and nit picking.

the help file DOES have an
index. From AB just press the F1 key (or help) and the help file opens.
Clearly displayed is the line that says "Contents, Index, Search,
Favorites".
Select Search then type a word
or phrase and, like magic, your answers appear.
I am sorry if I was short but
the VAST majority of your questions are clearly found in the help files.
Learning any new program is very much like grade school. Learning to find your
way is very much part of the process. This group has a great many talented
people willing to help those that are stuck or need assistance. Many
posters seem to prefer posting very basic questions (such as "How do you
Save and retrieve explorations in AA", when the top two radio buttons in AA are
Load and Save) to actually spending the time to read the
documentation. There are a great many tutorials listed in help (type Tutorial to
see the list), they really are "Must Reads" if you are unfamiliar with the
program. Questions like "Can you send the page numbers" is a great example
of what I am talking about. Go to help, type "Operators" and the first thing
that pops up is the AFL Reference Manual, a list of the various operators
and a description of how to use them (with examples) is found in that
tutorial. Another solution is to look at the point and click interface
developed by William Peters at <A

interface can help to teach by example......

The manual doesn't have an
index. It is a bit difficult to find specific items quickly. If I ask for help
it is because I have already tried to find specific information and found myself
wading through material that was not relevant to what I
wanted.
This is not a grade school and
your suggestion is like a grade school teacher's when a student asks
questions,
If you cant give me helpful
information then don't say anything no matter how smart you know you
are.

How about you just read the
manual your self? It is all there, look up "operators" as a
start.

Can you send the page numbers
that correspond to the complete Amibrokers user guide. These page numbers
do not seem to correlate with the page numbers in the AFL section, taking
the first page in the AFL section as page 1.

the definitions of when to use them. I find an example without the
explanation is a bit inadequate.
