Had the same symptoms (VERY, VERY slow computer)with my Win2K when I
allowed an automatic update for the Q811493 security patch. Went
through the same remedy - removed the patch....thankfully, it was one
that could be uninstalled. I've since switched off Windows 2000's
automatic update feature.
