I have been using the Groups list lately (my broker.groups file has over 60
categories, now), and I'd like to suggest a way to improve editing the list.
We need to edit the group list, if a new category is needed/removed or if we
want to sort it. I don't imagine most users are going to start with a list
that is complete (all 256 groups set, nicely ordered and never need
changing...), and what happens if a whole new category is invented?
It is difficult to insert a new group category between sequential groups which
are set and some stocks are set to use them. If a change is made, say, by
adding a new group, the insertion command should adjust the stocks which are
set to use the original group number and all of those shifted by the
insertion.
If we can't do this, the group order may/will end up being quite disorganised,
with new group categories getting added using higher numbers. (I don't really
like the idea of spreading out the groups with unused numbers between used
ones. yeuck) If a lot of stocks are set to use one group number and the
categories change, the old group setting will be incorrect until these stocks
are changed.
I was going to consider doing all of this with ARexx, but it would be *really*
inefficient, especially with a large dataase.
Also, setting a stock's group/market to a middle number (~128) number manually
can take a lot of clicking; this problem may be worth an ARexx program... does
anyone else want one?
